Driver in Yesterday's Train-Car Crash IDed

The Georgia State Patrol, which investigated Monday's car-vs.-train accident at the Morgan Road railroad-track crossing north of Trenton, has identified the driver in that crash as Romero Gustavo, 57, of Rising Fawn.

The GSP's Jason Ballard also identified the vehicle driven by Gustavo as a 2002 Nissan Exterra, and provided the following details:

"Vehicle 1"--the Exterra--was traveling eastbound on Morgan Road approaching a railroad crossing and a clearly visible stop sign. At this intersection there are no red blinking lights or railroad crossing arms, just the stop sign and also clearly visible railroad crossing sign.

"Vehicle #2"--the train--was traveling southbound on the railroad and approaching the intersection of Morgan Road. Vehicle #1 failed to stop at the stop sign and attempted to cross the railroad.

"Vehicle #2 struck vehicle #1 in the driver's side with its front," concludes the report. "After impact vehicle #1 rotated counterclockwise striking a wooden fence with its rear before coming to an uncontrolled final rest. The driver of vehicle #1 complained of leg pain and was transported to Erlanger Hospital."

Ballard added when questioned that Romero had been able to walk around the crash scene fine but was taken to the hospital to check out the pain.
