Attention, young people! (Or, for that matter, parents or grandparents of young people!) Would you (or your young person) like to learn a valuable and useful trade that will at the minimum get you a good job now, and quite possibly sustain you for your entire working life, quickly, and for free?
Well, you're in luck. A four-week Youth Success Academy welding class begins next week at GNTC (Georgia Northwestern Technical College) and subsidized free places in the class for low-income youth are going begging.
"I have seven slots and six of them are open," said Tammy Pence of GNTC.
The class begins on Monday, April 9, and will run from 12:30-5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. After the first two weeks, students will be certified in MIG (metal inert gas) welding, and the second two weeks will be spent on TIG (tungsten inert gas) welding.
To be eligible for free tuition for the program, a $2000 value, applicants must be Georgia youth 18-24 years of age and meet income guidelines.
