The Dade County Sheriff's Department has released the identity of the man killed by a train Thursday on the railroad tracks just north of Trenton: Ronald D. Starcher, 35. Starcher was of a Crossville, Tenn., address but was staying in Chattanooga at the time of the accident, said Sgt. Chad Payne, information officer for the sheriff's department.

Starcher's Facebook page said he was originally from Barberton, Ohio.

Sgt. Payne confirmed that, as the sheriff's office originally said in a release on Thursday, the man was a pedestrian and there was no vehicle involved in the accident. Sgt. Payne said Starcher was reportedly standing on the tracks as if waiting for the train.

The incident occurred at about 4:30 a.m. on Thursday.
