TSPLOST C of C Luncheon Changes Dates

It was announced at Thursday's Dade County Commission meeting that this quarter's Dade Chamber of Commerce luncheon has been changed from Friday, April 20, to Thursday, April 19, to accommodate the speaker's schedule.

Seth Millican (left) of the Georgia Transportation Alliance will speak at the luncheon about TSPLOST, the transportation special purpose local option sales tax that would raise Dade's local sales tax from 7 to 8 cents. A referendum on the tax is on Dade's May 22 primary ballot.

Dade County Executive Chairman Ted Rumley said at the commission meeting that Millican's talk will center on what proceeds from TSPLOST can and cannot legally be used for.

The Commission had earlier discussed holding community meetings to discuss TSPLOST but has since announced no such meetings. Meanwhile a vociferous opposition to the new tax has made itself heard throughout the county while no group has emerged on the other side to champion it, and the county commission itself has steadfastly failed to provide much information on its benefits.

The catered luncheon is at noon in the Dade Administrative Building and costs $10. No reservation is necessary, but call the C of C at (706) 657-4488 if you need more information.
