Local Candidate Debate, TSPLOST Luncheon Both Next Thursday

A local debate from 2016. This election year's edish is next Thursday, April 19.

Local government junkies, mark your calendars. Next Thursday, April 19, is a day you won’t want to stay home sorting your sock drawer.

First, at noon on the 19th in the Dade County Administrative Building, the Dade Chamber of Commerce will host guest speaker Seth Millican of the Georgia Transportation Alliance for its quarterly luncheon. Millican will speak about TSPLOST, the transportation special purpose local option sales tax that would raise Dade's local sales tax from 7 to 8 cents. A referendum on the tax is on Dade's May 22 primary ballot.

Chamber luncheons usually take place on Fridays, and the luncheon was originally scheduled for Friday, April 20. This time, though, the C of C had to change to Thursday, April 19, to accommodate Millican’s schedule. The luncheon is a catered do and costs $10. Call the chamber at (706) 657-4488 with any questions.

Then, at 6:30 p.m. in the Dade County Public Library, local news station KWN has organized a political debate for local candidates in the May 22 primary election. Debates such as this have usually been held on a Saturday night. Not this one. Show up Thursday night if you want to see all the candidates and hear their views.

Candidates should arrive at 6 p.m. to set up.
