Jackson (Ala.) County Arrests



On Wednesday, officers of the Jackson County (Ala.) Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit, Patrol Division and Scottsboro Police Department Investigators executed a search warrant at a residence on Long Hollow Road in Scottsboro, Ala. During this search, approximately 572 grams of marijuana, approximately five grams of Methamphetamine ice, Xanax, Oxycodone, othe illegal prescription medications and drug paraphernalia were seized along with $1,600 cash.

Arrested in connection with this investigation were:

William Anthony Swearengin, 60, of Scottsboro. who was charged with possession of marijuana 1st degree. He was later released on $2,800 bond.

Mandy Adelle Carrasco, 39 of Scottsboro, who was charged with possession of marijuana 1st degree, unlawful possession of controlled substances (methamphetamine), unlawful possession of controlled substances (Xanax), unlawful possession of controlled substances (Oxycodone), illegal possession prescription medication and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. She was later released on $18,100 bond.

Also on Wednesday, officers of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit, Jackson County Patrol Division and Stevenson Police Department executed a search warrant at the residence of Nicholas Leshon Price on Ohio Avenue in Stevenson, Ala. During a search of the residence, a large bag containing synthetic cannabinoid/"Spice" was located and seized.

During a further search of a vehicle registered to Brittany Young of Scottsboro, a larger amount of Spice was located along with marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine and Xanax pills. Two persons who were present inside the residence, Kevin Grant Garrard, 42, of Pisgah, Ala., and Benny Mason Jr., 38 of Hollywood, Ala., were placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of controlled substances. Both remain in the Jackson County Jail on $15,900 bond and $5,000 bond, respectively.

Both Price and Young apparently fled the residence as law enforcement approached and arrest warrants were obtained charging both with trafficking in synthetic cannabinoid/Spice, possession of controlled substances (methamphetamine), possession of controlled Substances Xanax, and possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of marijuana 1st degree and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Total amount of drugs seized were as follows: 182.40 grams of Synthetic Cannabinoid/Spice; 42.80 grams of Marijuana; 19.9 grams of Cocaine; 1.5 grams of Methamphetamine; 20 Xanax pills.

Later the same day, the above agencies along with the Scottsboro Police Department executed a second search warrant at Young's residence on Veterans Drive in Scottsboro. During this search no additional items of evidentiary value were located.

On Thursday, both Price, 30, and Young, 27, were located at a hotel in Kimbell, Tenn., and were detained on the outstanding arrest warrants. Both were placed in the Marion County Jail as fugitives from justice and legal procedures will be initiated to have them brought back to Alabama.
