Sgt. Chad Payne, information officer for the Dade County Sheriff's Office, reported as follows on Monday, April 16.
On Friday, April 13, at approximately 3 p.m., a Dade County deputy observed a vehicle traveling north on Interstate 59. It was verified through dispatch that the vehicle had a "swapped" tag.
The deputy activated his emergency equipment for a traffic stop but the vehicle ignored attempts to stop him and began to flee toward Chattanooga, the deputy in pursuit. After crossing into Tennessee on Interstate 24, not even half a mile from the state line, the deputy observed the driver throwing several items out of the vehicle into the median.
The chase continued to Rossville Boulevard and then back onto the interstate. It ended at Germantown Road.
Meanwhile, several deputies responded to the area of the Tennessee Welcome Center, where the driver had been observed tossing items from the car. With the help of a Dade County K-9, three baggies of methamphetamine (ICE) and some marijuana were found in the median.
Chattanooga Police Department officers stated they were going to charge the driver with possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana, and took him in to custody. The Dade County Sheriff's Office obtained warrants on the driver for felony fleeing/attempting to elude, possession of methamphetamine, and driving on a revoked license.
The driver was identified as Michael C. Nunley, and he is currently incarcerated in Chattanooga. The picture included with this report is of some of the methamphetamine (ICE) that was located by K-9 Daisy in the median of Interstate 24.
