DeKalb County Detention Centers Chief Jail Administrator Jonathan Langley was appointed on Tuesday to the Cherokee Etowah DeKalb (CED) Mental Health Board.
Mental illness is a medical condition that disrupts a person’s thinking, feeling, mood, ability to relate to others and daily functioning, often resulting in a diminished capacity for coping with the ordinary demands of life. CED Mental Health provides many different services to address that. CED's goal is to “provide an opportunity for individuals to realize their fullest potential while being served in the least restrictive environment.” CED Mental Health’s qualified staff members come to the DeKalb County Detention Center to evaluate and determine the most appropriate treatment for inmates who may have a mental illness.
Besides being DeKalb's highest-ranking jail official, Langley is also a nurse and a certified law enforcement officer. At the jail, Langley deals with mental illness on a daily basis. CED Mental Health Director Shelia Hurley said she appreciates the DeKalb County Commission appointing Langley to the board and that he is going to be a big asset in helping them assess their cases with all of his credentials.
DeKalb Sheriff Jimmy Harris commented: “Langley has been with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center for many years. Langley has been a great asset to our office with his many different abilities."
Besides his nursing and law enforcement expertise, said Harris, Langley has experience in correctional law, understanding human behavior and inmate access to courts and mail.
