Dade 4-H Invites All to Ag Day May 10!

Dade County 4-H Gardening Club and Community Club members with their wildflower wheelbarrow garden, which will be on display outside the Ag Center.

The school year is winding down, and we have had our last meetings for Gardening Club and Community Club. The two clubs cooperated to finish our new wildflower wheelbarrow garden. It is filled on the inside with wildflowers, herbs and a few vegetables. The outside is stenciled with flowers and insects. Once the plants start growing, club members will add little houses to make a fairy garden.

The garden can be seen outside the Ag Center front door.

The Community Club also started setting up for Ag Day, which will be Thursday, May 10, from 8 a.m. to nooon. Classes from the elementary schools come to participate, but parents are welcome to bring any home school students or preschool children as well.

Ag Day features demonstrations of weaving, spinning, blacksmithing and paint-making. Our local beekeepers association brings a cut-away beehive. There are animals, plants, displays, large equipment, games and goody bags. We’re looking forward to a great Ag Day next week!

Congratulations to our Dade County 4-H Shotgun team. They recently competed at the state qualifier match in Union County. Zac Smith is a shotgun rock star, and the rest of the team represented Dade County admirably. Good luck at State!
