Loyd Gass presents this year's Betty Gass Award to DMS science teacher and 4-H volunteer extraordinaire Fancher Nakhleh.
Dade County 4-H held its annual Awards Night last week. All of the competitive teams from this past year were honored: BB, .22 Rimfire, Cotton Boll & Consumer Judging and DPA participants.
We introduced the new Junior Teen Leaders for next year, who have already been busy volunteering their time around the Ag Center. The Outstanding Leaders from each Activity Club received certificates. We also presented a plaque to the Outstanding 4-H’er from each age group. Outstanding Cloverleaf 4-H’er was Lilah Wilson. Outstanding Junior 4-H’er was Ivy Nakhleh. Outstanding Senior 4-H’er was Kara Wilson.
The Dade County 4-H Volunteer of the Year Award went to John Price (right), a deputy with the Dade County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Price coaches the BB teams and .22 Rimfire team and has recruited other coaches to help as well. He was also brave enough to be a volunteer judge at the District Project Achievement competition for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders in Rome, Georgia.
This year’s Betty Gass Award was presented to Fancher Nakhleh, a seventh-grade Life Sciences teacher at Dade Middle School. Ms. Nakhleh is always ready to supply animals for Ag Day, demonstrate how to make cheese for 4-H’ers or bring classes to 4-H events. Dade County 4-H appreciates her willingness and enthusiasm for encouraging students to learn more about science and agriculture.
