Time to Get Your Lego Expo Creations In, Pick Up Summer Reading Bags!

There will be no Ready-to-Read class on Thursday, May 31. The staff will be gearing up for Summer Reading, which will begin on Thursday, June 7, with our kickoff and Lego Expo. The program begins at 10:30 a.m. You might want to get here a little early for parking. This year’s theme is Libraries Rock! To sign up for Summer Reading, go to chrl.org and look for the Summer Reading icon. You may sign up at home or at the library.

Those interested in displaying their work in the Lego Expo should bring their Lego creations in by June 6, the day before the Expo, if possible, to be included in the display. Those having a design displayed will be eligible for prizes and there will be activity stations for all children to take part in.

Pick up your bags containing Summer Reading materials at the library. For pre-school and elementary aged children, your bag will contain a schedule for Summer Reading along with the rules, a reading log, a Libraries Rock! bookmark, a page of reading activity suggestions and a Photo Scavenger Hunt page. These children should read five books per week or spend two hours per week reading and make one visit to the library per week. They should get their reading log stamped when they visit the library to be eligible for prizes.

There is also a bag for middle school students and one for high school students with a reading log and other materials. These students should read two books per week or spend four hours reading weekly and make one visit to the library per week to complete the program. Bring your reading log to the library to get stamped.

For each week that a child completes the reading activities and gets the log stamped, he or she will receive a ticket to be entered for the weekly prizes.

The first teen program will be on Wednesday, June 13, at 2 p.m.

There is a used book sale going on at the library now, but it will end before Summer Reading begins, so check it out now.
