On Saturday, May 19, at approximately 1 a.m., Dade County deputies on a traffic stop kept hearing what they believed to be a car "laying drag." [Editor's note: "Laying drag" as defined by atlantatrafficticketdefense.com means "driving in a manner which endangers persons or property by intentionally causing the vehicle to move in a zigzag or circular course or to gyrate or spin around."]
The deputies then observed a vehicle coming from the area the sound was coming from, appear to be "drifting" onto the I-59 on-ramp. [Editor's note: "Drifting" according to Wikipedia is "a driving technique where the driver intentionally oversteers, with loss of traction in the rear wheels or all tires, while maintaining control and driving the car through the entirety of a corner."]
Deputy Charlie Flatt Jr. approached the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop and the vehicle came to a stop in the 15,000 block of I-59. The deputy suspected the driver to be driving under the influence of alcohol, and he admitted to laying drag prior to the traffic stop. The driver, Max A Kirby, 24, of Chattanooga, was arrested and taken to the Dade County jail for booking. He was
charged with driving under the influence and laying drag/reckless conduct.
On Sunday, May 20, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Dade County Deputy Dustin Coffman was dispatched to the Dollar General Store on Highway 299 in reference to a male passed out inside a vehicle. Deputy Coffman arrived on scene and located the male. He immediately observed that the male had what appeared to be a drug pipe between his legs.
After waking the subject, Deputy Coffman also found him to be in possession of methamphetamine. Benjamin R. Frost, 33, of Whitwell, Tenn., was charged with possession of methamphetamine.
