Burning Down The Schoolhouse

On the morning of Wednesday, June 6, an Alabama school resource officer (SRO) was notified of a fire that had been started in the ticket booth and in the old gym at Fyffe (Ala.) High School. An investigation of the fire turned up two suspects, one a 15-year-old and the other former student Jonathan Martin, 19, of Fyffe.

Martin was questioned at his residence and was arrested after admitting to starting the fires. Martin was charged with criminal mischief 3rd and Arson 2nd and was transported to the DeKalb County Detention Center.

An investigation is pending on the 15-year-old.

Sheriff Harris says “Thanks to the Investigators, Fyffe officers, the school Principal and the SROs, we were able to find these suspects in such a short time.”

Initial reports did not indicate how much damage was done to the high school.
