This week’s Summer Reading program was fantastic! Magician Ken Scott had us all spellbound, kids and adults as well. I was happy that almost no one wanted to check out books during the program because that gave me a chance to watch it. I know that no one wanted to miss a minute of it. Although they were all checked out on program day, the library has three of Ken Scott’s videos on magic and they can be checked out.
The Summer Reading program for Thursday, June 28, will be Animal Encounters with the Reflection Riding Arboretum.
The next teen program will be Wednesday, July 11, at 2 p.m. and we will have some live music. Our Book Club will meet next on Tuesday, July 17, at 7 p.m., and we will be discussing Raven Black, the first book is the Shetland series of mysteries by Ann Cleeves. Join us! Both programs are at the library.
We will have three more Summer Reading programs in July and they are some really good ones:

Thursday, July 19 – Libraries Got Talent! Talent Show
To enter the talent show, you must submit a video entry showcasing your talent. There will be two categories, one for ages 2-7 and one for ages 8-13. Everyone who submits a video must sign and complete a video release form before the library can share the video. This form can be emailed, faxed, or submitted in person.
Entry videos may be up to two minutes long. Entries cannot include any content deemed inappropriate for a general audience. The child’s name, age, school name (or home school) and grade must be included with each entry but will not be included in the public post of the submission.
You can submit one of three ways: Dade County Public Library Facebook page, email to nlewis@chrl.org, or bring to the library on a flash drive or smart phone and have the library staff assist you.
Please remember to bring your library card with you when you come to the library. You do have to have your card with you to check out books. Your library card number is also your log-in for the library computers.
One suggestion I make to people is to take a picture of their library card with your phone, because people always have their phone with them. Often we can scan the image on your phone, or at least type it in so you can check out books or movies.
