Library News: Library Programs Transition as Summer Winds Down

Things are a little quieter at the library as we transition from Summer Reading to our other programs. Beginning in August we will resume our regular children’s program, Ready-to-Read, and some of our other programs like Family Movie Day and our computer classes.

We do have a used book sale going on at the library right now. Hardback fiction books are $2, nonfiction hardback, $1.50. Paperbacks are 50 cents and movies are $1. We have quite a few VHS tapes for sale for those of you who still have VCRs and we have some DVDs as well. Come in and browse.

Are you a science fiction fan? There are many science fiction books in the 100 Great American Read books. Maybe one of your favorites is there, or maybe you will find a few more that you would like to read.

Here they are: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, 1984 by George Orwell, Foundation by Isaac Asimov, Dune by Frank Herbert, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton, The Martian by Andy Weir, Mind Invaders by Dave Hunt, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, and The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

Students, have you done your summer reading? The library has the lists for all grades

and we have several of the books, or we can get others from other libraries in the PINES system.

Our children’s specialist, Nicole Lewis, is leaving us this week. We appreciate all her hard work and wish her the best in her new endeavors.
