Bryant Man Stabs Three Family Members

At around 3 a.m. this morning, Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, deputies of the Jackson County (Ala.) Sheriff's Office responded to a family/domestic disturbance call on County Road 131 in Bryant, Ala. Upon arrival at the residence, the deputies found that three family members had been stabbed with a knife by 25-year-old Tyler Jackson Blackwell.

Blackwell had stabbed his 44-year-old mother in the chest, his father, 48, several times in the arm, and stepbrother, 22, on his hand.

Blackwell was taken into custody at the scene and placed in a patrol car. After the scene was secured and Emergency Medical Services personnel were providing first aid to the victims, the deputies discovered that Blackwell himself was having medical issues, apparently from ingesting drugs prior to the incident. He was transported to a Jasper, Tenn., hospital for medical attention.

Blackwell's mother was transported by helicopter to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. The father also went to Erlanger but was taken by ambulance. The stepbrother was treated and released at the scene. The current status of all victims and suspect is unknown at this time.

Blackwell will face felony charges upon his release from the hospital. Investigation into the stabbings is continuing.
