Alabama Police Find Dead Body in Missing Person Search


Alabama police have found human remains buried in the woods near Woodville, a rural community west of Scottsboro off Highway 72 near Paint Rock and the Paint Rock River. Foul play is suspected.

On Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, members of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Scottsboro Police Department and Madison County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Unit executed search warrants at a residence and searched two campers on County Road 86 in Woodville. During this search, which was being conducted as part of an investigation into a missing person, investigators located human remains buried in a hole in a wooded area near the search location.

This investigation had been ongoing for most of the past week, and foul play had been suspected from the onset.

The body the officers found was that of a white male and has not yet been positively identified. The body will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for autopsy. Several suspects have been identified and charges are anticipated in the near future.

Significant assistance was also provided by the agencies listed above (Madison County Sheriff's Office and Scottsboro Police Department) as well as the Jackson County District Attorney's office, the New Hope Police Department, the Madison Police Department, the Huntsville Police Department, the Scottsboro/Jackson County Rescue Squad, the Jackson County Coroner's office, Highlands Ambulance Service and Elite Detection Dogs.

Jackson County Sheriff Chuck Phillips will hold a news conference about the case at 10 a.m. on Monday September 17.
