Officer Chad Reports on Shot 12-year-old

Sgt. Chad Payne is information officer for the Dade County Sheriff's Office.

On Saturday, Sept. 15, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Dade County deputies were dispatched to an address on Gass Lane for a juvenile male with a gunshot wound. Trenton Police Department officers arrived on scene first and began providing first aid to the wounded boy. They advised dispatch that a 12-year-old male had a gunshot wound to the chest.

Personnel from the Dade County Sheriff's Office, Trenton Fire Department and Dade County Emergency Service arrived on scene shortly after and made contact with the juvenile. Dade County EMS requested Life Force be sent for the male, and a landing zone was established by Trenton FD at the Four fields off Highway 11.

Dade County EMS transported the juvenile to the landing zone, where he was turned over to Life Force Air Medical for transport to TC Thompson's Children's Emergency Room.

After Dade County detectives arrived on scene, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to assist with the investigation. It was found that the cause of this incident was two juveniles "playing" with a handgun. At this time, the cause is believed to be accidental, and no charges are being taken against any party involved.

The juvenile victim is expected to make a full recovery, and is listed in stable condition. The investigation is still ongoing.
