High-Speed Chase Roars In and Out of Dade, Then Back In Again

On Saturday, Sept. 15, at approximately 2 a.m., Dade County deputies were advised by dispatch that a pursuit was heading toward our county on Interstate 59. Dispatch advised that Stevenson, Ala., had initiated a pursuit, attempting to stop a vehicle due to no registration, and they were entering Dade through Marion County, Tenn.

Dade units were also advised that information had been received that the driver of the vehicle was armed with multiple firearms, and that he was advising he wasn't going back to prison.

The pursuit continued into Dade County on I-24 East and then merged on to I-59 South, where a Trenton Police Defense officer joined the pursuit at the Trenton exit. While traveling at speeds over 100 miles per hour, the suspect was throwing items out of his vehicle, hitting patrol cars.

Dade County Deputy Hailey Smith then joined the pursuit at the Rising Fawn exit on I-59 South.. The pursuit then exited at Hammondville, Ala., on I-59, proceeding up the mountain, where the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office joined the pursuit at Highway 75 Northbound.

​​The suspect vehicle attempted to run DeKalb County deputies off the road multiple times, and again entered Dade County on Highway 301 South, where it attempted to run DeKalb deputies off the road again. A Dade County patrol unit boxed in the suspect vehicle with DeKalb units, ending the pursuit at Highway 301 South and Bible Camp Road.

The occupants of the vehicle were found with scales and four grams of methamphetamine.


​​​​The driver, Corey M. Rogers, 24, of Stevenson, was charged with

  • ​​Possession of Methamphetamine

  • Possession of Drug-Related Objects

  • Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer

  • Reckless Driving

  • Felony Fleeing/Attempting to Elude

  • Failure to Maintain Lane

  • No Insurance

  • Unregistered Vehicle


The passenger, Colby R Purdy, 25, of Bridgeport, Ala., was charged with

  • Possession of Methamphetamine

  • Possession of Drug Related Objects.
