"Lethal White" is Killer Good!

When we get phone calls at the library, one of the questions we get most often concerns our hours of operation. They are posted on our website, but here they are for a quick reference:

  • Sunday and Monday: Closed

  • Tuesday – 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Wednesday – 10 a.m to 5 p.m.

  • Thursday – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Friday – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Saturday – 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

There are a few more days to sign up for a new library card or to renew your card and be put in the drawing for a gift card. September is Library Card Sign-up Month and we’ll be putting people’s names in the drawing through Sept. 29. Don’t know when your card expires? Just ask us to check for you. Cards expire every two years so that we can check for changes in addresses, phone numbers, et cetera. There is no charge to renew cards, but if the account has fines, they must be cleared before renewing your card.

Crazy 8s Math Club starts the last week in September. We still have spaces available, so call (706) 657-7857 to sign up. Classes for kids in K-2 are on Tuesdays and start at 4:15 p.m. Classes for kids in grades 3-5 are on Thursdays at 4:15 p.m. If you miss the first week, just join us on the following week, as this class will continue for eight weeks.

Our Book Club met last week for another lively discussion. Next month, we will be discussing a very appropriate book for October, The Witches: Suspicion, Betrayal and Hysteria in 1692 Salem by Stacy Schiff. This nonfiction book is a riveting account of an American mystery unveiled by one of American’s most acclaimed historians. The Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the library.

I have a book recommendation. In 2013, a mystery book by Robert Galbraith, entitled Cuckoo’s Calling, was published, but it didn’t take long for someone to spill the beans—that Robert Galbraith was actually a pen name for J.K. Rowling, well-known author of the Harry Potter books.

She published a second mystery in the Cormoran Strike series in 2014 (The Silkworm) and a third in 2015 (Career of Evil). The central characters in these books

are Cormoran Strike, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, who lost a leg in action, and his assistant, Robin Ellacott.

I’ve been waiting for Book 4 for three years, and it’s finally out! The title is Lethal White and the library has a copy, if it’s not checked out. It’s a great series!
