Sgt. Chad Reports on Monday I-59 Wreck

Sgt. Chad Payne is information officer for the Dade County Sheriff's Office. This is his initial report on this afternoon's tractor-trailer accident on I-59.

Dade deputies got a dispatch message to be on the lookout for a speeding vehicle heading north on Interstate 59. While deputies were asking for more information, Dade 911 advised that the vehicle had been in an accident with a tractor-trailer at the 9-mile marker.

Upon the arrival of deputies, it was found that the vehicle had left the roadway, rolled and ejected the driver. The driver was found away from the vehicle and unresponsive. Dade deputies began life-saving treatment on the driver, and Life Force was requested.

Life Force was very close by and arrived on scene very shortly after the deputies' request. Life Force transported the driver to the hospital. He was living when he was flown away.

There were three occupants inside the passenger vehicle and one in the tractor-trailer. The other two occupants of the passenger vehicle were transported to the hospital via ground ambulance, and the tractor-trailer driver was uninjured.

Interstate 59 was shut down for about 45 minutes, both north and south lanes. South was reopened, along with one lane of northbound, as soon as Life Force left the scene. The accident is completely cleared at this time.
