Meet Author Perry Short at National Military Park

In partnership with the National Park Service, Eastern National invites you to meet author Perry Short on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 2 p.m. Short will be available inside the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center in Fort Oglethorpe to sign his historical novel, Generation of Warriors.

Generation of Warriors: Have you ever thought about the families who lived on lands where Civil War battles took place? What did they do when fighting broke out at their front doors? The Dyers, along with the Brothertons and the Kelleys, were among families who resided in North Georgia where the Battle of Chickamauga occurred in September 1863. Did these families engage in the battle? Did they survive?

This historical novel presents a plausible scenario of events that focuses on the family of 35-year-old Spillsby Dyer, an officer in the Confederate Army, who lived on these grounds and was a father of eight children during the Civil War. Loaded with historical facts, Short’s writings allow the reader to recognize the impossible circumstances that these families encountered.

Perry Short, a resident of Bartlett, Tenn., near Memphis, attended the University of Memphi and spent a lot of time traveling to the Chickamauga Battlefield to research Spillsby Dyer. Passionate about Civil War History, Short has been involved with re-enactments and has played a part in the Civil War movies Glory, Gettysburg, Gods & Generals, and North and South II.

Join us next Saturday, Dec. 8, to meet Perry Short and get your signed copy of Generations of Warriors. Your purchase supports the programs at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. Thank You for Supporting our National Parks!
