Double Interstate Accident Injures One

Initial information has it that this passenger car was already upended in the highway when an oncoming tractor-trailer truck knocked it off the road.

Sgt. Chad Payne is information officer for the Dade County Sheriff's Office.

On Friday, Nov. 30, at approximately 6:00am, Dade County deputies were dispatched to the area of the 1 mile marker on Interstate 24 Eastbound for an accident with injuries. Upon the arrival of DCSO deputies, a vehicle was found over the guardrail, down an embankment, and with heavy damage.

It was also found that a tractor-trailer was involved in the accident. Initial information suggests that the car was traveling eastbound on Interstate 24, possibly struck the guardrail, and rolled onto its top, coming to rest in the middle of the two lanes.

The tractor-trailer was also traveling eastbound on Interstate 24 when it came upon the vehicle on its top. The tractor-trailer struck the vehicle, knocking it approximately 25 yards, over the guardrail, and off the embankment.

The driver of the car was transported to the hospital in stable condition, while the tractor-trailer driver was uninjured.

Weather conditions were a likely contributing factor in both accidents. Dade County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the accident.
