CHI Memorial Opens Oncology Radiation Center in NW Georgia

New state-of-the art radiation treatment is now available at CHI Memorial Parkway in Ringgold.

CHI Memorial is excited to announce it is now offering radiation oncology in north Georgia.

Earlier this year, the Georgia Department of Community Health announced its approval of CHI Memorial Hospital Georgia's certificate of need application to provide full-service cancer services with new equipment at CHI Memorial Parkway in Ringgold. Providing full-service cancer care is part of the initiative CHI Memorial began several years ago to expand the availability of quality healthcare to the residents of north Georgia.

Each year, hundreds of people travel from Catoosa, Walker and Dade counties to CHI Memorial in Chattanooga for cancer care. Extensive travel for treatment can be exhausting for the cancer patient and challenging for family members who are there to help. With the opening of CHI Memorial Rees Skillern Cancer Institute-Parkway in Ringgold, the community now has access to treatment closer to home.

Radiation treatment eradicates cancer cells and shrinks tumors. At CHI Memorial, we have the most up-to-date cancer treatment machines in the industry. The CHI Memorial Rees Skillern-Parkway location has a True Beam linear accelerator and Philips CT machine. The True Beam machine is the most advanced and performs many forms of radiotherapy.

These include intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT). IMRT is a treatment technique whereby doctors are able to customize your radiation dose by varying or modulating the amount of radiation that is sent to different parts of your tumor. IGRT uses advanced imaging so doctors and clinicians can visualize your tumor. This allows them to verify the exact position of the tumor and treat it precisely each day.

Ryan Cleary, M.D., radiation oncologist with Tennessee Oncology, will provide radiation services at CHI Memorial Parkway. Radiation treatments are available Monday -Friday.
