Dade County Clerk Don Townsend announced that county offices will be closed next Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 24 and 25, for Christmas Eve and Christmas; and then again the following Tuesday, Jan. 1, for New Year's Day.

He also released the attached 2019 schedule for Georgia driver's license examinations in Dade County. As has been the case during 2018, the state Department of Driver Services will issue licenses in Dade County two Mondays a month.

The county had discussed slashing DDS's presence to one day a month as a cost-cutting measure during budget talks last summer. But Dade County Executive Chairman Ted Rumley said that as long as the Southeast Lineman Training College shared the cost of the program, the county had decided to let it stand at two days. SLTC subsidizes DDS presence in the county as a convenience since its students are required to obtain commercial driver's licenses.

Townsend says the local driver's license program costs Dade $41,726.33 annually, and that SLTC reimburses the county $4,500 per quarter, or for each class.

Rumley says there seems little danger the college will put out at this point. "They're getting more boys through there than ever," he said.

The DDS schedule is below. It is also posted on The Planet's Upcoming Events calendar on the homepage.
