The Georgia State Patrol identified the driver who overturned Tuesday on Highway 136 East in a single-car accident as Michael Terrell Stephens, 64, of an Allen Spring Road address in Rising Fawn.

The GSP's report states that Stephens was traveling east on 136 when he lost control of his red 2009 Chevrolet Impala, crossed into the westbound lane, struck an embankment and then a tree, rolled and came to a stop upside down off the north edge of the road.

"Driver 1 [Stephens] stated prior to the crash he was coughing uncontrollably which caused him to lose control of the vehicle," read the report.

Stephens was airlifted to Erlanger by a Life Force hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the accident.

The accident happened a little past 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
