Book Club Selection for January Highlights Child-Stealing Scandal

The Book Club has met and selected the books that we will read in 2019. I will be including that list in next week’s column. It seems appropriate to start the new year with our new list of books to read for 2019. We had a great time sharing food and books.

Our January book is Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate, so get reading. It is a novel based on one of America’s most notorious real-life scandals in which the director of a Tennessee adoption agency kidnapped and sold poor children to wealthy people all over the country. To show how widespread this was, two members of our Book Club know people who were adopted as children through this agency. This went on from the late 1920s to 1950.

If you are interested in a book and our library doesn’t have it, remember that we can get books on loan from other libraries all over the state. There is no extra charge for this; just ask us to put the book on hold for you. We have books delivered to our library twice a week, so it doesn’t usually take too long to get one. If there is a new book out that you would like for us to get, please let the staff know and we will put in on a list to be ordered.

The library will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 1, but will be back open at regular hours on Wednesday, Jan. 2. Have a happy and prosperous New Year.
