Our Book Club met in December to choose the books we will read for next year. The Book Club meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the library to discuss the book selected for that month. Here is the list of the books we chose for 2019. Please join us if you are interested.
Book Club 2019
January – Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate
February – Magpie Murders (F) by Anthony Horowitz. It’s a mystery within a mystery, the murder of a mystery writer, a classic Whodunit.
March – The Princess Bride (F) by William Goldman. You’ve seen the movie, so now read the book. It has adventure, comedy, fantasy, romance and fairy tale.
April – The Storm (F) by Dan Jolley. A thriller that deals with the aftermath of a killer tornado in north Georgia which uncovers a terrible secret.
May – The Cartographer of No Man’s Land (HF) by P.S. Duffy. From a hardscrabble village in Nova Scotia to the collapsing trenches of France, a debut novel about a family divided by World War I.
June – Born a Crime (Autobiography) by Trevor Noah. A Memoir of Love, Hope, and Resistance by the host of The Daily Show.
July – The Pale Criminal (F) by Philip Kerr. An historical detective novel and the second in Kerr’s Berlin Noir trilogy set in Nazi Germany.
August – The Right Stuff (NF) by Tom Wolfe. Documents the stories of the Project Mercury astronauts.
September – The Reckoning (F) by John Grisham. A murder mystery, a courtroom drama, a family saga. Grisham at his best.
October – The Corpsewood Murders of North Georgia (NF) by Amy Petulla. This one is close to home, a true crime story from Summerville, Ga.
November – The President is Missing (F) by James Patterson and Bill Clinton. A political thriller which offers scary possibilities.
December – Christmas Party and Book Selection.
January 2020 – The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (HF) by Mary Ann Shaffer. A London writer bonds with the colorful characters of Guernsey as she learns about the book club they formed during Nazi occupation.
Again, the Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of each month.
The Storm, the book selected for April, is based on the tornado that struck Ringgold, Ga., the same one that struck Trenton. The story is fictional, but many of the details may seem very real to local readers. The author, Dan Jolley, will join us for our discussion.
The Corpsewood Murders is a true crime story from nearby Summerville, Ga. Magpie Murders is by Anthony Horowitz, author of Foyle’s War and several episodes of Midsomer Murders, both popular TV series.
You will recognize the names of a couple of well-known popular writers, James Patterson and John Grisham. We will have at least one copy of each book at the
library, and you may be able to get some of them through RB Digital, our free ebook service. If you want your own copy, look for them at a bookstore or on Amazon.
The Teen Leadership Council has plans to start a Teen Book Club. They will meet on Tuesday, January 8, from 6-7 p.m. at the library to discuss plans for this. Any interested teens are welcome to attend.
