Superior Court January Term Fizzles

All jury trials scheduled for this week in Dade Superior Court were canceled as the special January criminal term went the way of the regular October session--nowhere much.

"We just took so many pleas," said Superior Court Clerk Kathy Page. She explained that between negotiated guilty pleas and bench warrants--meaning defendants who didn't show up for their day in court--there hadn't been much left, and she and her staff had been informed Friday that the special January trials were a no-go.

Dade Superior usually has only two trial sessions, one in October and the other in April. After the fizzling of the special January session, all pending Dade trials will now have to wait until spring.
