In an announcement sure to cause some raised eyebrows among citizens and untold joy among students, Superintendent Jan Harris announced this afternoon that she had decided "after much deliberation" to close Dade schools a second day this week. Classes at all Dade schools have been canceled for Wednesday, Jan. 30.

"We have concerns about black ice on back roads on both mountains as well as below freezing temperatures tomorrow," wrote Dr. Harris.

Classes were closed today after forecasters predicted as much as three or four inches of snow in Dade. Didn't happen. Both Sand and Lookout mountains got decorative dustings, but authorities reported county roads today were nothing worse than wet.

Temperatures are, however, expected to stay low--20 F tonight, dipping into the teens tomorrow by the Trenton forecast--and what high school student has ever objected to an extra snow day?
