Letter to the Editor: Fredock Amazed at Nonworking Hydrants, Logging Mess

Thanks for the article on the nonfunctioning water hydrants. I'm amazed that water hydrants are not functioning at such an alarming rate and there is so little constructive conversation on the repair of them. If I were a business owner in those locations I would be burning up the phone lines and knocking on doors asking what is being done with my tax dollar!!

Rather than wait for a part for a year why not replace the broken hydrant with one sitting in the weeds at the water plant?? A hydrant damaged during construction of a gas line was not replaced and billed to the damaging party?? Nearly a half mile of the business district that pays taxes has no fire protection?? A water department that does not test their own hydrants and asks local fire departments to test and hope they report one that does not work properly??

This is a sorry reflection on leadership across the board, with absolutely no accountability on the part of anyone apparently. Good golly I hope my hydrant works up here on Lookout Mountain.

On another rant, here's a blurry photo (Sorry! Traffic was heavy behind me!) on Lookout Mountain/Hwy 136 during the rain from last week showing the runoff where the latest logging took place. Can't wait to see what happens when the whole property is laid bare by the harvest to come.
