We are so proud of our Cloverleaf 4-H’ers! Thirteen students from 4th, 5th and 6th grades traveled to Georgia Highlands College in Rome, Georgia, to participate in the 4-H Northwest District Project Achievement competition. Almost 600 students from 12 northwest Georgia counties made presentations in over 50 different categories.
We had two fourth-graders from Davis. Keagan White explained how to make puppets and showed some of her creations in the Crafts category. Aila Gass competed in Engineering and Mechanics with her Rube Goldberg contraption, and was the youngest competitor in her group and the only girl!
Davis fifth grade had the largest group from Dade County. Ashley Holcomb explained the correct food, exercise and grooming for dogs in Dog Care and Training. Carter Accord talked about the atomic bomb in the Engineering and Mechanics section. Landen Mahan demonstrated how to tie fishing flies in Outdoor Recreation. Hailey Gerrells placed second in Performing Arts – Vocal by singing Titanium. Joseph Daniel shared the rules and famous players of soccer in Sports – Team.
Dade Elementary was represented by two students. Fourth grader Liam Davison explained the different types of computer cables in Computer Information Technology. Fifth grader Amelia Anderson described the characters in Greek mythology in History People.
Dade Middle School was well-represented by four students. Elijah Hisle shared his knowledge of pugs in Dog Care and Training, and placed second. Clay Allman placed second in Entymology by entertaining the judges with his presentation on “Bugs I Have Eaten.” Lilah Wilson told all about poplars in her first place presentation in Forestry Resources and Wood Science. Julian Ramirez de Arellano played his trumpet and sang in Performing Arts – General.
All categories in District Project Achievement are judged by UGA Extension employees and volunteers. We would like to thank the judges from Dade County: Heather Cochran, Jessica Reed, Carla Dyer, ANR Agent Sarah Flowers, and 4-H Extension Educator Alison Henderson. One of our Teen Leaders, Kara Wilson, helped direct students to their presentation rooms.
A special thanks goes to the parents of our awesome Dade County 4-H’ers! Your support and time encouraged these students to step out of their comfort zone and try something new and a little scary. They are all stronger and more confident now because they faced their fear of public speaking and came out victorious!
