Try Local Author Raymond Atkins: We've Got His Latest!

The Teen Book Club will meet on Tuesday, February 12, at 5 p.m. at the library. We’re hoping this group will be very active. Members can discuss Winger by Andrew A Smith or When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon. If you have any questions, please email Faith McBrayar at fmcbrayer@chrl.org.

Our Prime Time Program begins today, but it’s not too late to sign up. Prime Time focuses on children ages 6-10 and will have reading activities for the children and their parents. There will also be activities for older and younger kids as well, and a meal will be served. Call the library at (706) 657-7857 to register. Classes are on Tuesdays from 6-7:30 p.m. during the whole month of February and part of March.

We have some more new books in: Scrublands by Chris Hammer; Searching for You by Jody Hedlund; Set List by Raymond L. Atkins; She Lies in Wait by Gytha Lodge; Untouchable by Jayne Ann Krentz; Verses for the Dead by Douglas Preston; Whiskey in a Teacup by Reese Witherspoon; Widows by Jess Montgomery; Wild Fire by Ann Cleeves; and The First Conspiracy: The Secret Plot to Kill George Washington by Brad Meltzer.

Set List, one of the new novels listed above is by local author Raymond Atkins. Atkins grew up at Valley Head, Ala., and has several cousins in Dade County. He now lives in Rome, Ga., has written several books and has twice been recognized as Georgia Author of the Year. He even named one of his characters after a cousin of mine who went to high school with him at Valley Head.

Ray is generous with his time and has been to our library for readings several times. His books are popular with our patrons. Try Set List or one of his other novels.

The Dade County Historical Society is planning another Cemetery Walk for this May. Members will have a planning meeting at the library on Tuesday, February 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. for those interested in being involved in the project.

The Historical Society will also be leading a hike to the Cole City Coke Ovens on Saturday, February 16. If you are interested in this activity, please call or come by the

library to sign up—that’s (706) 657-7857.
