GSP IDs Dead in Tuesday Sand Mountain Auto Crash

Three young Alabama residents died in Tuesday's catastrophic car crash on Sand Mountain. The Georgia State Patrol furnished this report:

GSP received the call at 2:43 p.m. on 03/12/2019. The crash occurred on Georgia Highway 301 near Mile Marker 2. Initial indication is that a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro being driven by 23-year-old Destiny Cagle of Bryant, Alabama (fatally injured), was traveling north on Georgia 301 and was negotiating a curve. The Camaro crossed the center line of the roadway and struck a 2009 Nissan Sentra being driven by Zachary Evans of Henegar, Alabama (fatally injured).

There were three passengers in the Camaro, Issac Wright (19) of Higdon, Alabama, William Wells (24) of Ider, Alabama, and Nathan Smith (20) of Higdon, Alabama. Mr. Smith, the rear driver side passenger, was transported to a Chattanooga hospital and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Mr. Wells was airlifted to a Chattanooga hospital in critical condition. Mr. Wright was transported to a Chattanooga hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
