April is here and for those who still need them, we still have some tax forms available, Federal Form 1040 and the directions, plus Georgia Forms 500 and 500EZ.
We would like to express our appreciation to Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic Church for its support of the library and other local organizations. Members have been holding fish fries on Fridays for the past few weeks with the proceeds going to worthy Dade causes. There will be two more of these, one on April 5 and one on April 12, both from 5 to 7 p.m. Plates include fish and chips, green beans, corn, slaw, hushpuppies, dessert and drink, and the cost is $7. Proceeds will go to support Dade First Family Connections, Light in the Mountains, Friends of the Dade County Library, the Dade County Historical Society, A Hand Up and Dade County Foster and Adoptive Parent Association. Come out and support this group as they help out with these worthy projects.
We still have some historic Dade County calendars for sale at the library, and while this far into the year, you may have all the calendars you need, you might still be interested in some of the historic pictures. They are the Dade County Courthouse; Gross Mercantile circa 1960; the James Cooper Nisbet house in Cloverdale, which is no longer standing; the old Dade County Jail, which no longer exists; the home and family of Isaac Houston Wheeler around 1890; Sitton’s Mill; a copy of the telegram sent by President Harry Truman, welcoming Dade County back into the Union; the Easley Plantation house in Rising Fawn; John L. Case Mercantile in 1920; the Odd Fellows Building around 1890; the Odd Fellows Building in 1975; and Rising Fawn School, before they put the stucco on it. Calendars are $10.
This week’s Ready-to-Read class will be about plants. We’ll be planting some seeds and learning how to take care of them.
