Terri Bain (center), flanked by Dade Schools counselor Tinena Bice (left) and Superintendent Jan Harris, was honored by the school board at its Monday meeting for her backpack-stuffing project. In 10 years, Ms. Bain has now packed over 9000 meals for hungry kids.
At its regular May meeting on Monday, the Dade County Board of Education took the opportunity in this last week of school to honor employees retiring this year as well as a slew of other individuals important to the schools.
Dade Elementary student Amelia Anderson was recognized for winning the Trenton-Dade Optimists' annual oratorical contest, and Tommy Baron for winning two events in the FBLA State Leadership Conference. Terri Bain of Trenton United Methodist Church for her 10-year children's backpack project to feed hungry students. Other outstanding athletes were similarly recognized.
After an executive, or closed-door session, on personnel, the board accepted the retirements of Barbara Hartline from the Dade County High School Cafeteria and Tabitha Arnold from her job as a teacher at Davis Elementary. It accepted the resignations of DCHS paraprofessional Christina Hamlett, Dade Middle School social studies/math teacher Nixon Bunch and DCHS teachers Lisa Davidson and Haley Nagle.
The board also approved the following transfers: Sonja Cloud from the Dade Elementary School cafeteria to a job as custodian at DCHS; Brandy Sample and Megan Dodd from part-time to full-time cafeteria employees at DES; and Tammy Stevens from Spanish teacher at DCHS to counselor at Davis.
Pam Barton was hired as director of CTAE and Shenea Hill as assistant CTAE director. Susan Caul was hired as teacher of ELA/Science at DMS, Karen Hyes as teacher of family consumer science at DCHS and Troy Boeck as math teacher at DCHS.
Jamie Bonner’s leave request was approved.
Other retirements this year recognized during the regular part of the meeting were those of Debra Brackett, Julie Horton, Mary Newsome, Dr. Thomas Randolph, Ronnie Shelton, Margaret Smart, Leonda Smith, Ellen Stone, Jana Travis and Dr. Sharee Miller.
