Summer Lineup at Library Includes Magic, Robots, Puppets, Lego

For parents with kids in Summer Reading, we have a new app called Beanstack. You can log your summer reading on Beanstack. Visit chrl.org and click the Beanstack link to set up your account.

You can log in from multiple devices. Use the app or the website to log reading materials. You can use your smart phone to scan a book’s ISBN to enter the title or enter it manually. Come by the library if you need assistance logging materials. Paper logs are still available on request. After registering for Summer Reading, come by the library to pick up your packets.

There will be four Summer Reading Programs for kids in June:

  • June 6 – Out of the Box-IRobots;

  • June 13 – Marc Griffiths, Ventriloquist;

  • June 20 – Lego Expo;

  • and June 27 – Tommy Johns, Puppets, Comedy and Magic.

All these programs are on Thursdays and begin at 10:30 a.m. There will be three programs in July as well.

The School nutrition program will provide FREE sack lunches for kids through age 18 at the library during the month of June, except for Mondays when the library is closed.

There will be Summer Reading programs specifically for teens. There will be two in June. The first program is June 11 – Night Sky Star Painting. The second one will be on June 27 at 1 p.m. with Tommy Johns.

Adults will have Summer Reading opportunities as well. As usual, our Book Club will meet on the third Tuesday night of each month at 7 p.m. at the library. In June we will be reading and discussing Born a Crime by Trevor Noah, A Memoir of Love, Hope, and Resistance by the host of The Daily Show. On June 4, our manager, Marshana Sharp, will be demonstrating ways to make Forest Fairies. These fairies will make a great addition to your garden or a special gift for someone. Light refreshments will be served. On June 18, we will have a Cake Pop class. Join us for a cooking class where our staff member Georgeann will show us how to make cake pops the original way. Everyone will get to decorate and take some home that night. Both classes will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

We have copies of the schools’ Summer Reading lists for grades K-12 available. If we don’t have the book you need available, we can get it through our PINES interlibrary loan, but it may take a week or two, so don’t wait until the last minute!

The Northwest Georgia Mobile Career Center and staff from the Georgia Department of Labor will be on site to assist with online applications, job search, interview skills and more on Thursday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dade County Public Library.

Our last FREE healthy cooking class will be May 29 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Appropriately, the last class will be dessert night.
