In a town where the complaint is often heard, "There's nothing for young people to do," one young person decided to do something about it. Nathaniel McDaniel proudly announces the "Valley Vibes" music and arts festival this Saturday in Jenkins Park, Trenton.
"I love music," said McDaniel by phone on Monday. "Trenton has no music."
Well, it will on Saturday. McDaniel has lined up 20 bands as well as artists, comics and select food vendors. The festival will start at 11 a.m. and last until 9 p.m., which McDaniel says sets him a tight schedule for fitting all the bands in, even on the two stages he's using in the park.
Nathaniel McDaniel is a native of Dade and graduated from Dade County High School in 2011. After studying at the University of Georgia he took several jobs across the country before landing back in the area at Channel 3 in Chattanooga, where he works as a news producer. But again, his first love is music, and he sings and plays drums in one of the bands scheduled to play at Valley Vibes, Good Grief.
The festival is free, but in benefit of the Tri-State Food Bank, and there will be ample opportunities to donate. "It's a free event to help feed hungry people," said McDaniel. encouraging the Dade community to turn out.
McDaniel has also promoted the event in Chattanooga and is hoping to draw in attendance from there as well. He is already planning a second festival next year in neighboring Walker County.
