Our scheduled Summer Reading performer Marc Griffiths was unable to come last week because of transportation issues. The kids watched a very entertaining movie instead. We are trying to work something out so that Mr. Griffiths can come in July for a program. We’ll give updates on this later.
This week’s program on Thursday, June 20, is our annual Lego Expo. Kids can build something from their Legos at home to display at this event. Please bring your Lego creation to the library by June 19 so we can include it in the display. Then kids may complete building challenges with the library’s Legos at this event. These will stay at the library. Take your own creations home after Thursday’s program.
Looking forward to June 27, we will have one of our most popular performers, Tommy Johns.
Our first teen program, Painting the Night Sky, was a big success. Our next teen program will be on June 27. Performer Tommy Johns will teach a class on how to start your own business and it’s designed for teens. Space is limited for this program, so please call the library at (706) 657-7857 to register. There will be a prize drawing, too.
Our next Adult Summer Reading class will be a photography class on July 9 at 5:30 p.m. More details on this later. Mark your calendar if you’re interested. July’s Book Club selection is The Pale Criminal by Philip Kerr. It is an historical detective novel and the second in Kerr’s Berlin Noir trilogy set in Nazi Germany. The Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of each month.
Do you like to books in a series? We just got a new series of 24 books, Secrets of the Blue Hill Library by Emily Thomas. As usual, we also have a special display of our newest books.
Free lunches for kids are still available at the library Tuesday through Friday through the month of June. They are available on Mondays at Dade High, Dade Elementary and Jenkins Park.
Don’t forget we have summer reading lists for Dade County Schools, grades K-12 (yes, all grades have summer reading,) and we have copies of many of the books, but if we don’t have the one you want here, we can borrow it from another library.
We have “A Universe of Stories” book bags for sale at the library for $2 each.
If you need help navigating Bean Stack, please come in and ask a staff member to assist you.
