On Tuesday, July 9, reports Fort Payne Police Chief Randy Bynum, a call came into the Fort Payne Police Department requesting officers to respond to 305 Bus Circle SW. Fort Payne fire medics were already on scene when officers arrived. Officers found a 78-year-old woman lying on the floor and determined that she was the mother of Michael Dimitri Mullins, also of the residence.
Also on scene was a health care worker who was assigned to check on the woman. It was determined that the elderly woman had been on the floor for a while. Medical aid was rendered to the woman and she was transported to the hospital.
Officers arrested Michael Dimitri Mullins, 54 for Elder Abuse and Neglect in the second degree and Obstructing Governmental Operations because of Mr. Mullins' attempts to keep police and medics out of his residence. Mr. Mullins was transported to Fort Payne Police Department where he was processed and later turned over to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office with a bond set at $55,000.
Chief Bynum says the investigation in the case continues and more charges are possibly forthcoming.
