GDOT Says 136 E Bridge Replacement Won't Start Until Late 2022

Residents of valley neighborhoods along Highway 136 East may have noticed surveyors at work all along the road and into its environs. What for? some are asking, so The Planet duly passed along the question to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

GDOT spokesman Mohamed Arafa answered as follows:

The Georgia DOT is currently working on coming up with a concept for a project to replace the bridge on State Route 136 over Lookout Creek. This project concept is in its very early planning process. The only activities of this planning process currently taking place are topography and environmental surveys.

The project team is expected to submit a project concept report in October 2019. If things go as planned, GDOT expects to finalize the bridge replacement plans in late 2021. The project will then be put out for bidding in 2022 and a contract will be awarded. Once a contract is awarded, a notice to proceed will be issued and construction could be in late 2022.

A project of this magnitude usually takes one to one and a half years to complete.
