We have just one more Summer Reading program for kids, a Science Fair! This will be on Thursday, July 18, at 10:30 a.m. Our staff members will first demonstrate three different science experiments while explaining them to the kids. Then we will have stations set up for the kids to work with their own experiments. Come for some hands-on science fun!
Our adult program for the week will offer an opportunity to meet some local authors. They will be at the library on Saturday, July 20. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will have light refreshments and the authors will be signing books. Bring your own book to get signed or purchase one. Some of the local authors who will be there are Rex Blevins, Robert (Bobby) Bradford, Gary W. McConnell and our own Dave Connis (a former staff member).
The Dade County Historical Society will also have their quarterly meeting on Saturday, July 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the library. This is their regular business meeting and they will be discussing plans for their next events, a genealogy workshop on August 6 and a cave symposium in September.
The Book Club meets Tuesday, July 16, at 7 p.m. to discuss The Pale Criminal by Philip Kerr. Their book for August is The Right Stuff, a nonfiction book by Tom Wolfe, which documents the stories of the Project Mercury astronauts. I’ve been watching The Race to the Moon on PBS. It’s hard to believe, and makes me feel old, but it’s been 50 years since American astronauts walked on the moon for the first time.
The next FREE Nutrition and Cooking class at the library will be Tuesday, July 16, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. This is great for diabetics.
