Dade Commission Calls Wednesday Meeting to Halt Heavy Industry Permitting

The Dade County Commission has called a special meeting for Wednesday, Aug. 21, at noon. The only agenda item is: "A resolution establishing a moratorium on permitting for heavy industry."

This, put in the context of a recent uproar about the possibility of a chicken processing plant in Wildwood, may presage an attempt by a county government made impotent by the lack of zoning ordinances to control incursion by industry it deems unconducive to Dade's wellbeing.

The meeting will be in the county Administrative Building's meeting room.
