There will be a kids’ cooking class at the library on Tuesday, September 10, from 6-7 p.m. The title of the class is Healthy Cooking for Good Living. Just bring your kids; everything else is provided.
Looking into September: Go on an adventure with a book! Try our Middle Grade Literature Club and explore exciting books each month. This is for ages 9-12 and we will meet on September 17 from 4 to 5 p.m. at the library. For the month of September, we are reading Over the Moon by Natalie Lloyd.
Do you have a kid who is interested in computer coding (using programming language to get a computer to do what you want it to do)? The Coding Club will meet monthly, with the first meeting being on Tuesday, September 3, at 4 p.m. They will utilize Google and Scratch programs in the class. Please call the library at (706) 657-7857 to sign up for the class.
On September 5, from 7-9 p.m. at the Dade Public Library, the Dade County Historical Society will host a Symposium on Caves in Dade County. According to the New Georgia Encyclopedia: “Georgia's two northwestern most counties, Dade and Walker, host 164 and 149 caves respectively," so there is plenty to talk about.
Marion O. Smith, Marty Abercrombie, Steve Davis, Joel Sneed, Ken Pennington, Jerry Wallace, Kathy Mackay and several other noted spelunkers have been invited. Marion O. Smith will give his presentation on his field of expertise and his experiences caving since the 1960s. Others will be part of a panel discussion on their experiences in the caves of Dade and TAG (Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia) area. This is a free event.
September is Library Card Sign-up month. If you sign up for a new library card OR renew your current card, your name will be put in for a drawing for a gift card. There will be prizes for kids as well. Library cards are free to residents of Georgia, or for people who work or own property in Georgia. Please bring ID when you come to sign up. Out-of-state cards are $25 per year. Library cards need to be renewed every two
years to keep information up to date. Check with us to see if your card will need to be renewed soon, and do that during the month of September.
