The Book Club will be discussing The Reckoning by John Grisham at our September meeting. John Grisham’s first book, A Time to Kill, was published 30 years ago in 1989, and The Reckoning is his most recent adult book until The Guardian comes out in October 2019.
Some people may not be aware that Grisham also writes a series for young people about Theodore Boone, Kid Lawyer. He has written seven books in this series. Many of his books have been made into movies as well, making Grisham one of today’s most popular and well-known authors.
While most of his books are mysteries and courtroom dramas, he has written a few like Playing for Pizza and The Painted House that are not. The Reckoning is a murder mystery, a courtroom drama and a family saga. It is set in the 1940s and includes many real events from World War II.
This book is not a whodunit. From the beginning we know that Pete Banning gets up one morning, goes to the Methodist church and shoots and kills his preacher, Dexter Bell. The mystery is why? Pete just says, “I have nothing to say.” Join us at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, to discuss this book.
Our Middle Grade Literature Club will also meet on Tuesday, September 17. The club will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. at the library. The kids will be reading and discussing Over the Moon by Natalie Lloyd. This is for readers from 9 to 13.
If you and/or your child participated in our rocket launch activity in July, we still have certificates for some of you here at the library.
We are learning about careers in Ready-to-Read and this week’s program will be about construction workers. Ready-to-Read meets at 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays. Come for story time, craft time and play time.
