Quick Reminder of IMPORTANT STUFF THIS WEEK

Z-Word Hearing!

There will be a public hearing tonight on Dade's new proposed land-use ordinance! Or actually three public hearings as required by law, but all rolled into one. It is, or they are, at 6 p.m. today, Monday, Sept. 30, in the Administrative Building. You can read the ordinance on Dade County's Facebook page by clicking on the image at left.

Dade has never had zoning laws, and commissioners vehemently deny the ordinance amounts to zoning; but the ordinance would regulate which and where prospective industries could be situated in the unincorporated county.

Signup Begins for Hope for the Holidays!

Mary Ann Bradford of the Dade County Sheriff's Office says she's already receiving inquiries about the DCSO's popular Christmas gift program for children. She will begin taking applications for the program on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Pick up apps in the sheriff's office during regular business hours and turn them back in promptly. Ms. Bradford reminds all that no applications will be accepted after Wednesday, Nov. 27.

So pick 'em up, fill 'em out and bring 'em back. Next!

County Commission Meeting

Just a quick reminder: The regular October meeting of the Dade County Commission is at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, in the Dade Administrative Building. This month the commission may or may not--it may depend on what happens tonight at the public hearing--have the first reading of the proposed land-use ordinance. Changes to the county's lingering "blue laws," or alcoholic beverage regulations, are also on the agenda. For local politics, there is no time more important than 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month!
