Sgt. Chad Reports on Tuesday's Chase, Officer-Involved Shooting

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Dade County K9 Deputy Kevin Haswell observed a suspicious vehicle in the Wildwood area. As Deputy Haswell attempted to catch up to the vehicle, he observed the vehicle turn off all its lights and then begin traveling in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed.

Deputy Haswell attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the vehicle refused to stop. The pursuit of the vehicle started in Dade County, went into Lookout Valley, Tenn. and then back into Dade County. When the pursuit continued back into Marion County, Tenn., Deputy Haswell's vehicle left the roadway and struck the treeline, disabling his vehicle and ending his involvement in the pursuit. Two additional deputies continued the pursuit, eventually ending at Parker Lane and Highway 134 in Marion County. The pursuit ended with an officer-involved shooting and is currently being investigated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. K9 Deputy Haswell was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained during the vehicle accident, and he was released earlier this morning. His K9 partner, Kaiser, was not injured in the accident. Any additional details about the officer-involved shooting will be released when it's available, as the investigation is early and ongoing. The Dade County deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, as is standard with officer-involved shootings.
