Come to the Grand Illumination Saturday to Kick Off Christmas Season

A workman is lifted skyward to hang Christmas lights in the Trenton town square. At the center of the universe, we don't mess around.

In New York, they start the holiday season with the famous Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. In Atlanta, there's the lighting of the Great Tree, and in Rome The Planet imagines the pope does something.

Who on earth cares? That sort of thing is all right if you like it but this is the center of the universe, honey. We've got the Grand Illumination.

Trenton has already hung up its city Christmas decorations but this year, the Dade County Public Library is partnering with the city as well as with the Dade County government, Dade Sheriff's Office, Dade First-Family Connection and (in case you haven't read the word "Dade" enough to satisfy you) Bank of Dade to put a little more WOW! into the season kickoff.

The Grand Illumination will be at 7 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 30, on the Trenton town square, when lights on Christmas trees, the square and the town in general will burst forth in--with any luck--sudden and dramatic brilliance.

But do come earlier. Festivities start at 4 p.m. on Saturday in and around the library. There will be visits with Santa, singing--Dade's very own opera diva, Carey Anderson, is slated to sing carols with the children--free hot chocolate and craft-making inside the library for kids.

This is a free event and a prime opportunity for family fun and for communing with your community--yet another perk of living at the throbbing epicenter of the starry cosmos. Don't miss it!
