Lovebug Festival This Saturday at Cloudland Canyon State Park

Our Lovebug Festival is a celebration of insects and all that they have to offer here at Cloudland Canyon State Park. The event will take place this Saturday, February 15, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Interpretive Center.

Do you know what your “Spirit Ant” is? What does a chocolate chip cricket cookie taste like? What’s special about a granddaddy long legs? Why do we need to protect bees? Find the answers to all these questions, as well as more fun, at the Lovebug Festival.

Speakers will include faculty from UTC’s Biology Department and the Tri-State Beekeeper’s Association as well as volunteers from the Friends of Cloudland Canyon State Park. Insect crafts will be available for the kids.

All topics are given a one-hour time frame so feel free to come and go based on your interest. The festival kicks off at 10 a.m. with granddaddy longlegs. At 11 a.m., we will explore bees with the Tri-State Beekeepers Association. For lunchtime, we have crickets and chocolate chip cricket cookies. At 1 p.m., we will explore how caterpillars develop into butterflies. At 2 p.m. is discovering fun facts about ladybugs. Ending the day at 3 p.m., we will explore our spirit ants with Dr. DeAnna Beasley from UTC.

Plus: Cloudland Canyon offers hiking, biking, pond fishing, disc golf, picnicking, camping and Interpretive Center programs. Plan to spend the whole day in the beautiful outdoors!

The event is free but there is a $5 per vehicle State Park fee for parking if you don't have an annual pass.

Cloudland Canyon State Park is located at 122 Cloudland Canyon Park Road in Rising Fawn, Ga.
