Final Candidate List For May Primary

Qualification for local elective offices in the May primary ended at noon Friday. All candidates for county government and school board are running as Republicans. The judgeships are nonpartisan.

These are the candidates listed as of 12:30 p.m. Statewide, election boards have until 2 p.m. to upload information, so the list may be updated; but the Dade Board of Elections was confident it had uploaded all qualifiers.

Surpises: A third candidate for the Dade District 4 county commission seat emerged Friday: Randy Stone. Current Georgia House Representative Colton Moore joined the state senate race at the last minute to take on incumbent Jeff Mullis. Longtime District Attorney Herbert "Buzz" Franklin did not re-up; his assistant, Chris Arnt, will run unopposed unless some other name is uploaded by 2 p.m.

For the county, many seats remain unopposed. No one turned up to challenge either of the Superior Court judges, the probate or magistrate judge, the court clerk or coroner. Ray Cross's third term looks like a pretty safe bet since no one stepped up to run against him, either.

Ditto two of the school board seats. But the one that is contested, the at-large position, has three candiates.
